What a strange and weird time it has been. While I never want to experience an actual worst of times, it's interesting how experience teaches us what a phrase like Dickens' "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times..." means. For me, I have seen so much that reminds me of both the best and the worst of people and a lot of it has been brought on by the crisis we are in. I live in San Jose, which is in the heart of Santa Clara County, which was one of the early hot spots of the pandemic but things quickly settled down once Governor Gavin Newsom rushed a shelter in place order for this county and several other counties in crisis (before eventually shutting down the whole state. I am very fortunate, neither myself or my partner or my family (so far!!!) have exhibited any symptoms through this and also (so far) none of us have lost our jobs so I count us as really being in a good place. I have been designated a Disaster Service Worker by my employer, Santa Clara County, and I
